Despite the fact that Hong Kong has a plethora of high-end hotels, there aren’t many rooftop pools in town. This is something that has been criticized by locals who want to see more recreational facilities open to the public. However, there are a few spots where you can get your pool fix without having to leave the comfort of your hotel room. Some of these swimming pool locations include:
Located in the Western District, this outdoor complex features a 50-meter main pool with diving boards and a viewing gallery to seat up to 800 spectators. In addition, there is a teaching pool and leisure pool complete with small slides for toddlers and water canons that shoot water into the air. The pool also includes spacious locker rooms, on-deck bleacher seating for the Omaha swim team and office space for coaches and other support staff.
This pool is a favourite among families, as it features an array of waterslides for children of all ages and is surrounded by a giant pirate ship. It is also a great place to relax and take in the beautiful city scenery. The best part? It’s free to use. Whether you’re a resident or just visiting, be sure to check this one out!
The HK Swimming Pools Association (HKSPA) has agreed to review competition qualification rules after a nine-year-old was denied the chance to compete in this summer’s open swimming championships because of his club ranking. The decision came after the union representing swimming training institutions called for a change in the current system.
There are a total of 44 public swimming pools in Hong Kong, including nine on Hong Kong Island, 13 in Kowloon and 22 in the New Territories. They are operated by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department under the provisions of the Law of Hong Kong.
Moreover, the government has plans to build new facilities such as the Sports Park Sai Sha on Hoi Ying Road in the New Territories, which will have a 25-metre indoor swimming pool and an indoor multipurpose arena that can hold up to 1,500 spectators. It will also be home to a golf driving range, international standard tennis courts, a football and rugby pitch and Hong Kong’s only dedicated pickleball court.
With summer temperatures heating up, there’s no better way to beat the heat than a relaxing swim in a local pool. The good news is that there are plenty of options to choose from, and here are some of our top picks.
A few tips to keep in mind:
During peak times, the hottest pools tend to fill up quickly. So, be sure to arrive early to ensure a spot. Also, be sure to bring a towel and sunscreen.
Getting around the pools is simple, as most are located close to Metro stations. You can also use an app to help you find the nearest pool. Just be sure to download the app before you head out. Also, keep in mind that you can purchase a monthly swimming pool pass for a low cost. This will save you money and make it easier for you to enjoy all the pools that Hong Kong has to offer.
