Choosing the Right Pool for Your Lifestyle

When you work with a professional pool construction company in Sydney, your vision will be the foundation of your new pool. From concept to blueprint, expert designers ensure that every detail aligns with your desires and the architectural style of your home, creating an outdoor space that elevates your property and accentuates your lifestyle.

When it comes to swimming pools, there are plenty of options on the market, including custom-built, prefabricated and aboveground designs. The best option for you will depend on your preferred type of pool and how it will be used. For example, if you plan to swim for laps, you’ll want to look for Sydney pool builders that specialize in designing and building indoor lap pools with a high turnover of water. On the other hand, if you’ll mostly use your pool for fun and relaxation, you’ll want to choose a company that offers a range of different pool shapes and sizes.

As you explore your options, consider whether you’ll mainly use the pool for recreational or lap exercise and who the primary users will be—children, adults or a mix of both. This will help you determine how much space and features you’ll need, and will also make it easier to find Sydney pool builders who share your aesthetic.

While some of Australia’s iconic ocean pools have vanished, a number remain. Some are hidden and tucked into the cliffs of the harbour, such as Elkington Park Baths in Balmain or Murray Rose Beach at Maroubra. The latter is particularly beautiful, carved into the inter-tidal rock platform and set among exposed rocks with spectacular views.

Others are more easily accessible, such as the harbour-side pool at Nielsen Park in Vaucluse, where a deck and sheltered pavilion offer swimmers an escape from the crowds of Bondi Beach. The most popular of all the pool locations is probably the historic Balmoral Baths, where Victorian elegance meets a stunning coastal location. Tucked below the sandstone cliffs of the harbour, the corrugated iron and painted cream and green bathing area is an iconic part of the Sydney landscape.

However, even in the most prestigious of locations, it can be tough to make a new pool successful. This was proven when the swanky new North Sydney Olympic pool opened in April 2021, but was beset with problems such as council infighting and pork-barrelling, heritage concerns, a design review that revealed a raft of issues and a budget that has ballooned to more than $100m. As a result, the opening date has now been pushed back to late 2024 or early 2025. It’s a stark reminder of the challenges that can confront public-private partnerships in large infrastructure projects.
