When we think of Hong Kong, the city’s stunning views and world-class shopping are probably top of mind, but its many picturesque pools may be overlooked. These swimming spots are hard to beat on a hot, summer day; whether it’s a high-rise pool with skyline views or a natural infinity pond at the foot of a mountain, there are plenty of ways to cool down.
Swimming is not only a great low-impact workout and a fun activity to do with loved ones, but it also offers numerous health benefits. It improves cardiovascular fitness, increases flexibility and muscle tone, helps to prevent chronic diseases and can even help to reduce stress and depression.
Taking a dip in a beautiful, clean and safe swimming pool can also be a relaxing and energizing experience. It is a perfect way to relax after work, a school run, or simply enjoy the outdoors and soak up some sun.
When you live in a newer, larger development with several towers, swimming pool facilities are likely to be one of the key features. In some cases, the pool will have both indoor and outdoor pools, while smaller single-tower developments can have a small outdoor pool instead – usually too short for laps but still great for kids to splash around in and burn off their energy.
Public pools are another great option, and they’re easy to find across the city. Typically, they’re well maintained and offer a range of facilities, including lockers, towels and change rooms. Some even have a sauna and spa. Generally, you can pay for entry fees with your Octopus card.
There are also some great outdoor pools that open in the summer and provide a refreshing escape from Hong Kong’s unforgiving heat. One of our favourites is Victoria Park Swimming Pool, which boasts an indoor main pool as well as an outer area with two teaching pools and a lot of space to lie back and relax. The pool closes for cleaning services several times a day, so check the schedule before you go.
Lastly, you can join a local swim club like the HKFC Swimming and Triathlon Society to take your swimming skills to the next level. Members of the Society compete in regular swimming galas and take part in open water events, so you can always challenge yourself and keep improving!
There are lots of options to choose from when it comes to hk pools, so you can be sure that you’ll find the perfect pool to suit your needs. The key is to do your research, set a budget and have some fun! So, are you ready to get your tog on and dive in? We can’t wait to see you there!
