The Hongkong Prize and the Xplorer Prize

Founded in 1996, the Yuen Ren Chao Prize is given in memory of Professor Chao’s passion for history and belief that every student should understand Hong Kong’s unique culture and history. It has become a benchmark for excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate history studies in Hong Kong, and a key source of encouragement for students to explore diverse aspects of the city’s rich history.

The Xplorer Prize is an award scheme initiated by the Pony Ma and Tencent Foundation to support young scientists (aged 45 or below) in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau in their pursuit of unexplored areas of basic sciences and frontier technologies. Prof. Fan is a recipient of this year’s award, which is one of the highest in talent funding programs for young scientists in China.

This year’s award carries a jackpot of over HK$100 million, and finalists can expect to benefit from global recognition and top-tier media coverage, as well as access to world-class facilities at HKU.
