The Winners of the 7th Annual Hong Kong Prize
Hong Kong Prize is an international award that recognises scientists whose research has substantial effect on society. Selected through an impartial process without sponsorship or committee influence, winners are awarded both monetary prizes and global exposure for their work. HK Prize is open to researchers worldwide who have made outstanding contributions in any of the following areas: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health, New Materials and New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech.
This year, the prize celebrated its seventh anniversary. It was established to inspire young people and the general public in Hong Kong to contribute to the city’s future development through innovative ideas. It has gathered over 180,000 ideas to date and has provided a platform for local people to share their ideas on how to shape Hong Kong’s future on the world stage, while also supporting global development and cooperation.
The prize’s judges were impressed by the depth of the entries. Among them, there were inspiring stories of selfless volunteers who make a difference through their dedication and hard work. They might not be famous or well-known, but these heroes embody the true spirit of Hong Kong and inspire us all.
In the News Department, reporter Li Bingcun secured two runner-up prizes in the Best News Writing category for her in-depth articles – Securing a New Lease of Life and Life at a Crossroads – that shed light on the challenges and breakthroughs in cross-border organ transplantation and fertility perseverance respectively. Copy editor James Cook won second runner-up in the Best Headline category for his innovative story In the Green Fast Lane that showcased how the city is moving towards a greener future through speeding up the adoption of electric vehicles.
The finalists for the hk prize are not only talented writers, but they are also outstanding professionals in their fields. Taking part in this prestigious competition gives them an opportunity to build up their writing portfolio and increase exposure. However, it is important that participants read the contest’s terms and conditions before entering.
The winners of the hk prize will be announced next Wednesday. They will receive their awards at a ceremony at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, which is to be held as a highlight of this year’s Future Science Prize Week from Oct 14 to 17. During the week, renowned scientists including Gregory Winter and Michael Levitt, Nobel Chemistry laureates, will visit the city to take part in a two-day forum. They will discuss the importance of scientific innovation in addressing global challenges and opportunities, and share their insights on how to foster a knowledge-based economy. The event is supported by the hk prize sponsor HSBC. For more information, please click here.
