When people think of Hong Kong, shopping and dim sum come to mind, but swimming pools aren’t necessarily top of mind. However, the city is brimming with picturesque swimming pools, from a natural infinity pool on a mountain to a series of waterfalls and pools in the New Territories. And when summer hits, there’s no better way to cool off than with a dip.
Swimming isn’t just a fun way to spend the afternoon, it also has numerous health benefits. From reducing stress to helping fight depression, the activity is great for your body and mind. In fact, studies show that just three sessions a week can boost your energy levels.
In addition, swimming can help improve your cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. It is also a low-impact exercise, which means that it can help you burn more calories in the same amount of time as other exercises.
Besides being a fun, healthy activity for all ages, swimming can also be a fun social activity and is a good way to get in shape. Plus, it’s a great way to spend quality time with loved ones. So, this summer, why not take a dip in one of these beautiful hongkong pools?
The city’s bars, swimming pools and theme parks will reopen Friday as the government relaxes coronavirus restrictions. However, a ban on gatherings of more than four people remains in place as authorities urge vigilance.
About 20 public swimming pools may only partially open this summer due to a shortage of lifeguards, a union said Tuesday. The Hong Kong Recreation and Sports Professionals General Union said its members contacted swimming training institutions to warn that some of the city’s 45 public pools could not operate this summer. The union said the partial opening will affect swimming clubs’ operation and could lead to cancellations of classes.
The union warned that modest salary increases will not solve the problem. Private pools in residential buildings and hotels typically offer much higher salaries, with full-time lifeguards earning HK$24,000 a month or more. The department said it will revamp the salary structure for lifeguards and pave a career path for them to attract talent.
