The Hong Kong Prize and ODA Programme

The Hong Kong prize is an award given to the film that has been deemed as the best of the year. It is a competition organised by the Hong Kong Film Critics Society and is open to all people. There are various categories, and the winners are determined through a public vote. This competition is held every year. The winners are announced at an awards ceremony that is usually attended by the celebrities and directors.

A controversial movie about the future of Hong Kong won the top prize at this year’s awards. The award-winning movie, titled Ten Years, taps into residents’ worst fears for the semi-autonomous city as Beijing tightens its grip. It was a box office hit locally but also antagonised the Chinese authorities.

The winner of the Hong Kong prize receives HK$200,000, a trophy, and a certificate. It is not uncommon for Hong Kong to have multiple winners in a single category, especially for the more prestigious categories such as the main prize. Often, the winner will be able to use their prize money for business or personal purposes.

Each category has a different review process, and the winning team must meet specific criteria to be awarded. Each of the prize categories is also governed by its own rules and regulations. Each organiser is responsible for drawing up the rules of the award competition, publicising the prize, inviting entries and conducting a preliminary evaluation. The overall coordination of the HKAI is provided by a committee comprising representatives from each organiser.

HKUST researchers across all fields have shown a strong interest in the Prize with record numbers applying this year. The areas of artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and energy, and advanced manufacturing are particularly well represented. This is a clear indication of the great strength in scientific research and innovation of HKUST.

In addition to the HK Prize, the HKA also runs the International Development Assistance Programme (ODA) to promote the Mainland and international development cooperation. This competition is aimed at gathering innovative ideas to help shape Hong Kong’s role as a global hub and build its international presence.

During the review process, the HKA’s review panel will assess each submission based on its impact and the degree to which it has transformed an existing technology. They will also look at the potential of the innovation to make a real difference in the world. Each entrant will be presented with a score sheet that shows their total mark for each of the criteria. The top mark in each category is the Grand Award, followed by the Awards and then the Certificates of Merit.

The Board is the highest decision-making body of BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE, and is responsible for reviewing and interpreting the articles of the Charter; suggesting important scientific research fields for THE PRIZE; appointing members to the Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team; setting requirements of nominating experts; and verifying and approving the final review results. In addition, the Board may set forth other specific provisions in the Charter as deemed necessary.
